East Riverside

Living in East Riverside
East Riverside is a neighborhood in Austin, located just Southeast of the city’s core in downtown. This now-bustling entertainment district is an area that’s ripe for the picking, with great parks, outdoor recreation, restaurants, and more.

Here are some of our favorite things to do in the area.

Entertainment – Beloved music venue Emo’s, which moved to East Riverside from Red River Street in 2011, boasts some of the best acts in town. Meanwhile Grizzly Hall, which replaced Midway Field House last year, holds its own as a venue and event space. For a good ol’ fashioned bar scene, hit Jackalope South Shore, the sister location of the Dirty Sixth dive bar. And if you’re in it to win it, grab a group of competitive friends and head to American Bingo, which is BYOB and far from your granny’s local bingo joint.

Get Active – The new 1.3-mile Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake, which extends as far west as the Austin American-Statesman building, is the crowning jewel of the neighborhood, a place where you can race your running buddy or take your pup out for a leisurely stroll. Get on the lake with Live Love Paddle by renting a paddleboard or kayak. You don’t have to belong to the country club to take some good swings at Riverside Golf Course, which borders Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course.

To Eat and Drink – East Riverside features unsuspectingly delicious restaurants and bars that won’t be crazy packed like most downtown restaurants. If you’re in the mood for tasty Asian cuisine, check out 1618 Asian Fusion and 888 Pan Asian Restaurant. Both eateries feature large menus with a diverse array of cuisine and are open late. For authentic Mexican food, Pueblo Viejo and La Tunita 512 are the best. Pro tip: La Tunita 512 usually sells out by 1 to 2p.m., so be sure to order early!
